She is involved in Varsity cheer, FCCLA, FCA, NHS, NYI President at her church, Environmental club, Musical, Marching band and Choir. The activity that she enjoys the most is Marching band and the musical because performing is a big part of who she is and the people who made it a great experience. Amiliya's favorite high school memory is when she played Beth in Little Women, it was her favorite role and taught her a lot about acting. The class that you enjoyed the most is Choir because it helped her grow and got her out of my comfort zone. Outside of school she enjoys working with my church, spending time with her sister, playing with her nephew, and reading. If she had one wish it would be that everyone knew Jesus. After High School, Amillya plans to attend MidAmerica Nazarene University and major in Sociology and intercultural studies. The person she admires the most is her Mom because she taught her how to be strong and that if you want to achieve something you go after it. That you don’t let people decide who you are going to be that’s something you decided all on your own. The teacher that had the most influence on her is Mr. McCoy because he taught her how to get out of my box and to break the walls others have built around her. He helped her get over her insecurities when it comes to music. The one thing she will miss most about South Shelby High School is being involved in the music program.

Senior Spotlight: Kaylee Gaines Kaylee Gaines, will be a 2023 graduate of South Shelby High School, is the daughter of Selena and Aaron Gaines and the sister of Hannah Gaines. Her favorite activity to do with your family:I really enjoy going out to eat with my family because everyone is always happy to be together and to be eating. Her favorite childhood memory is going to Hilton Head, South Carolina with my family for vacation. She is currently involved in FFA, FBLA, Environmental Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, and Basketball. The activity that she enjoys the most is basketball because she has got to do many fun things through the program like going to Tennessee in the summertime and going to state her Junior year. The class that she enjoyed the most is Mr. Hillard’s anatomy class because, even though I hate science, Mr. Hillard always made everything very fun and interesting and was an amazing teacher. Outside of school you enjoy hanging out with my friends and family. If she had one wish it would be to never have a job where I can’t afford to buy whitening strips once a month. After graduating this May, she plan on furthering her education at University of Missouri where she will pursue a degree in accounting. She chose this career path because of her love for math and organization. She hopes to eventually be able to come back to my hometown and find a job with a local company. The person she admires the most is her mom because she is caring and loving to everyone. She always puts her kids before anything and works hard at whatever she is doing. She has shown me what a good mom looks like and has always been my best friend. The teacher that had the most influence on her is Mr. Hillard because he always has the answers to all of our crazy questions and ensures that each kid in his class is understanding his lesson before moving on. She hopes to always put her greatest effort into whatever she is doing, which is something Mr. Hillard never fails to do. The one thing she will miss most about South Shelby High School is being around all of my classmates that she has grown up with since fourth grade and have shared many of my life moments with.
